Corrections Mail & Parcel Screening

You’ve been shown two ways to screen your mail. We’re neither.

A machine to buy. A service to digitize it. BrightKey is a third thing entirely — a managed screening operation that identifies contraband and CBRNE threats off-site, before they reach your facility, your officers, or your population.

Not a product you operate. Not a copy of your mail. An operation, run for you — where the threat is stopped before it ever crosses your wall.

Why BrightKey

A screening operation. Not a scanner.

Every mail-screening option a correctional facility has been offered falls into one of two categories. A machine you buy and place in your mailroom, where your officers watch the screen and decide what they’re looking at. Or a service that takes your mail away, digitizes it, and sends back a copy. Both can be good at what they do.

Both also leave you with the same problem. Contraband still enters your walls to be examined, the judgment still falls on an officer under pressure, and you still own the failure when something reaches your population. And legal mail — which can’t be copied — arrives unscreened either way.

BrightKey is the third thing: a managed operation that identifies the substance off-site, before it reaches you, and adapts as the threat does — because it’s people and process, not a device frozen on the day it shipped.

The Approaches

Two familiar answers. And a third.

Imaging
Option 01 · A machine to buy
  • Sits in your mailroom
  • Shows a shape on a screen
  • Your officers interpret it
  • The threat is already inside
Digitizing
Option 02 · A service to copy it
  • Mail is copied off-site
  • You receive an image
  • Legal mail can’t be copied — it arrives unscreened
  • The physical item still must be handled
Identifying
BrightKey · An operation, run for you
  • Screened off your property
  • The substance is named
  • Legal mail handled to standard
  • Only cleared mail reaches your population
How It Works

We moved the screening off your property.

Your inbound mail and parcels route to us first — off-site — where the threat is identified and stopped. Only what’s cleared continues on to you.

How We Engage

A defined lifecycle, run for you.

Every engagement follows the same stages, shaped to your facility — from understanding your streams to running the operation day to day.

01 · Assess
Understand your facility

Mail, parcels, and freight volumes, contraband entry vectors, and the constraints of a correctional environment — including legal and privileged mail.

02 · Design
Build the workflow

Routing, cadence, and the detection layers appropriate to your threat profile.

03 · Operate
Run the operation

Screening off-site, clearing what’s safe, resolving what isn’t, documenting the chain of custody.

04 · Own It
We own the outcome

You stop running the process. Only cleared material ever reaches your facility.

Common Questions

What facilities ask before they talk to us.

We already have a screening vendor. Why would we switch?

You don’t. We’re the layer your current setup doesn’t provide — off-site identification before the mail arrives. We complement imaging and digitizing; we don’t replace them.

Where does the screening actually happen?

Off your property, at a BrightKey facility, before the mail reaches you. If a threat has to enter your building to be found, it has already entered.

Is this proven?

BrightKey has screened mail and material for federal facilities for more than 25 years. Corrections is a new market for us; the capability is not.

What about legal and privileged mail?

All mail is screened to the same standard — legal and regular alike. Legal mail is handled in a way that preserves privilege: screening never comes at the cost of an inmate’s constitutional rights. This is where digital-only solutions struggle — privileged mail can’t simply be copied.

What threats can you identify?

The full CBRNE spectrum — chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosive — plus narcotics, in one managed workflow.

Do you work alongside our existing process?

Yes. Facilities keep their scanners and staff for volume and visual inspection. We add the off-site identification layer neither imaging nor digitizing provides.
